Adnams
(short notes)

Southwold, England

All beers sampled as Real Ale at The Castle Pub, Cambridge, UK

March 26, 1998

From my limited sampling, this brewery produces some terrific beers. The next time I am in the UK (September 1998, perhaps) I'll be certain to concentrate a bit more on the Adnams range.  (I wrote that ages ago.  However, I will be in London and other bits of England for a week in August, 2002; you can bet I look forward to revisiting Adnams.)

Mild Mild
1.035. I understand that Adnams is going to discontinue this splendid beer, which is a shame. The mild has a nice malty and roasty aroma. Roasty notes highlight the flavor profile, with hints of chocolate malt and a subtle hoppiness. Overall the beer tends to be thinnish, of course, but ultimately the subtle nuance makes this an excellent session beer.

Oyster Stout Oyster Stout

Adnams Extra "Special Bitter"
1.043. While I did not take detailed notes on this beer, my impressions jotted down were that I enjoyed it more than London Pride, if one can believe that in retrospect.

Adnams Bitter Regular Bitter
1.036. A rather fruity pint, more so than a similar Fullers. This beer has a nice, lingering finish of sublte malty and estery notes.
