Anacortes Brewing Company
(short notes)

Anacortes, Washington, USA

Aviator and River Otter sampled at the 1995 Herbfarm Microbrewery Festival.  Volksweizen and Kolsch reviewed June 21, 1998 at the Herbfarm Microbrewery Festival.  Sadly, nether the brewery nor the festival remain with us.
Volksweizen Bavarian Wheat
Thin in body, heavy on the clove.  Perhaps too much clove.  No banana, with an astringent finish.

Kolsch Kolsch
Pleasant, innocuous enough, with an appropriate fruitiness in aroma and flavor.

Aviator Doppelbock
Tasted on tap at the 1995 Herbfarm festival. Hazy reddish color. A slight, dulled maltiness in the aroma. The flavor was overwhelmingly malty with a slight bitter finish. In fact, the maltiness was to the point of cloyingly sweet; the beer tasted underattenuated and green.

River Otter Porter
Tasted on tap at the 1995 Herbfarm festival. Deep garnet color, nearly opaque. The aroma was neutral, but some roast evident. The flavor was dominated by an insipid emptiness which slid into hop bitterness and a slightly roasty finish. The roast and bitterness overdominates for a porter; could use more malt up front.
