This receipe turned out very well. It was the only one out of four that I KNEW was going into compitition before I brewed it. It turned out a little darker than I planned, it boarderd a porter as far as I'm concerened. The judges at the Big Fresno Fair gave it second place. This would be a great receipe for someone who is just learning to brew. Dark enough to impress your friends, but light enough to be liked by the masses.

Finishing Gravity: 1.014
Time in Boil: 1 hr 3 min
Primary Fermentation: 7 dys
Secondary Fermentation: 2 days
Additional Fermentation: 1 day
Ingredients:
- 3lbs Pale Malt extract
- 3lbs amber extract
- 2lbs crystal 10
- 3 oz black patent malt
- 2 oz roasted barley
- 2 oz williamette 4.2%
- 2 oz kent goldings 4.7%
- 1/2 oz cascades
- 1 tsp. irish moss
- california ale yeast white lab wlp001
- 3/4 cup primimng sugar
Procedure:
steeped 2 lbs crystal for 45 min at 165 deg..., sparged and steeped rest of grains for 25 min. at 150 deg. add malts, 1 oz williamettes, 1 oz kents for 45 min. at 60 min add 1 oz williamettes and 1oz kents. at 80 min add cascades and irish moss. pull boil at 90 min. pitched yeast at 76 deg. ( cuz I got no patience)
