This is the first recipe that I derived on my own - hence the lack of experimentation! I brewed it to give away in honor of the birth of my first child. It took third in the first round of the 1998 AOB national competition (SE division). I originally used .5 oz of nugget for the bittering because I had them laying about. The Kent-Goldings is an attempt to decrease the bitterness slightly, making it more style-appropriate.

Ingredients:
- 6 lbs Pale LME
- 8 oz 40L Crystal
- 8 oz 80L Crystal
- 6 oz Chocolate Malt
- 2 oz Black Patent
- 6 oz Flaked Barley
- .5 oz Kent-Goldings (60 min)
- .5 oz Kent-Goldings (30 min)
- 1 oz Fuggles (7 min)
- Wyeast British Ale II - 1335 (from starter)
Procedure:
Mash the specialty grains at 158 for 20 minutes, sparge with 170F H20. I added a bit of irish moss 15 minutes before the end of the boil. But as this is a fairly dark beer, it probably wasn't necessary.
