Molasses Porter

Molasses is a good flavor for porter. I would add even more to my next one. The black patent "bite" balances the molasses flavor nicely.

Batch Size: 5 gallons
Starting Gravity: 1.048
Finishing Gravity: 1.006
Time in Boil: 90 min
Primary Fermentation: 10 days, 58 degrees
Secondary Fermentation: 5 days, 58 degrees
Ingredients:
- 9 lbs. 2 row pale malt
- 1 1/4 lb chocolate malt
- 3 oz black patent
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1/2 oz chinook pellets
- 1/4 oz northern brewer pellets
- 2 oz ultra pellets
- 1 pkg 1084 Irish ale yeast
Procedure:
Mash in at 152 degrees for 90 minutes or until conversion. Sparge, boil for 90 minutes, add chinook and northern brewer hops for 60 min, add 1 oz ultra hops for 30 min, add 1 oz ultra for 10 min.
