This recipe is my basic brown ale recipe. It is a wholesome tasting brew good any time of the year. It took first place in the Brown Ale category at the 1997 Aggieland Brewfest in College Station, Texas.

Ingredients:
- 6 lbs light malt syrup
- 10 oz dark brown sugar
- 1 lb 40 L Crystal malt
- 1/2 lb chocolate malt
- 1/2 oz fuggles (boil 60 min)
- 1/2 oz fuggles (boil 25 min)
- 1 oz fuggles (end of boil)
- 1 tsp Irish moss
- 1 tsp Super Ferment yeast nutrient
- WYeast #1028 (London Ale Yeast)
Procedure:
Steeped specialty grains for 30 min at 150F in 2 1/2 gal water. Added syrup and sugar. At boil, added 1/2 oz hops. 30 min into boil, added Irish moss and nutrient. At 35 min, added another 1/2 oz hops. Added 1 oz hops at end of boil.
Cooled, added water to 5 gal, and pitched yeast (From starter culture). Added 3/4 cup corn sugar to prime. Ferment between 65 and 68F.
