In all fairness, this is Rob Schutte's 1995 AHA Gold Medal stout recipe. Rob's efficiency was around 65% and yeilded 1.054, mine efficiency runs about 75% and yeilds 1.062. He was at 45 IBUs and I dropped it down to about 30. Regardless, this is excellent grain bill. Thanks Rob.
Specifics
Recipe type: All Grain
Batch Size: 5 gallons
Starting Gravity: 1.062
Finishing Gravity: 1.018
Time in Boil: 1 hour
Primary Fermentation: 5 days
Secondary Fermentation: 2 weeks
Ingredients:
- 8 lbs Hugh Baird pale ale
- 1 1/2 lbs flaked barely
- 1 lb roasted barley
- 3/4 lb CaraPils
- 1/2 40L crystal
- 2 ozs Fuggles (4.7 % aa) for 60 minutes
- White Labs Irish Ale yeast
Procedure:
Mash at 156F for 90 minutes. Simple
