I wanted to make a lighter porter for those times when a robust one was not needed. It turned out very nicely, lighter but still very full of flavor.
Specifics
Recipe type: All Grain
Batch Size: 5 gallons
Starting Gravity: 1.051
Finishing Gravity: 1.013
Time in Boil: 60 minutes
Primary Fermentation: 1 week
Secondary Fermentation: 2 weeks or until done
Ingredients:
- 9 pounds Pale Malt
- 5 oz Chocolate malt
- 2 oz 120L Crystal malt
- 0.25 pound flaked barley
- 1 oz Northern Brewer (9.4% AA; 60 minute boil)
- 0.5 oz Fuggles (4.6% AA; 30 minute boil)
- 0.5 oz Fuggles (4.6% AA; 5 minute boil)
- Thames Valley yeast (Wyeast 1275)
- 2/3 cup corn sugar
Procedure:
Single step infusion mash at 152F for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Sparge and collect 6 gallons of wort.
After hot break, add Northern Brewer hops and boil for 60 minutes adding Fuggles at 30 minutes and 55 minutes.
Cool,add yeast and adjust volume to 5 gallons.
Ferment in primary for about 1 week and then transfer to secondary. Bottle when gravity reach about 1.013.
