This is the standard beer on tap at my house, and a real crowd pleaser.
Specifics
Recipe type: All Grain
Batch Size: 5 gallons
Starting Gravity:
Finishing Gravity:
Time in Boil: 1 hour
Primary Fermentation: 5 days
Secondary Fermentation: 3 weeks
Ingredients:
- 6 Lbs. Beeston's Maris Otter
- 2 Lbs. Beestons's Golden Promise
- .5 Lbs. pale crystal malt(15 L or so)
- 1.5 0z Kent goldings for 60 min.
- 1 oz Kent goldings for the last 2 min
- a 2 liter starter from White labs Burton ale (wlp023)
- or 2 fluid oz of yeast cake of the same yeast washed from a previous batch.
Procedure:
No need to step mash this one. A single step infusion mash at 153 F will work the best with such well modified grain. A dilution of 1.25 qt. water per lb of grain. The water should be very hard. Let rest 1 hour at 153 F, and then infuse to 170 F and let rest 20 min and then sparge with 170 F water.
