Inspired by Red Hook Double Black. A good "beer repair kit" too. Just add one to a 6 pack of Bud. ,;-)
Specifics
Recipe type: Partial Mash
Batch Size: 5 U.S. Gallons
Starting Gravity: 1.55
Finishing Gravity: 1.25
Time in Boil: 1hr
Primary Fermentation: 7 gal plastic fermentor pail
Secondary Fermentation: 5 gal galss carboy
Ingredients:
- 6 lb dark malt extract syrup
- 1 lb malted wheat
- 1/2 lb black patent malt
- 1/2 lb chocolate malt
- 1/2 lb roasted barley
- 6 0z quick oats
- 1 pot gourmet chocolate coffee
- 1 0z northern brewer for 45 min
- 1 0z fuggles for 15 minutes
- Edme dry ale yeast

Procedure:
Mash Grains at 150 f. for one hour, sparge to brewpot, add extract and bring to boil. Use gypsum if so inclined. after 15 minutes add NB hops, 30 min out add irish moss if so inclined. 10-15 min out add fuggles. Add coffee at end of boil, best to drip through double paper filters to minimize oils.
